Resided in South Africa from 1921.

A painter of landscapes, still life, seascapes, wildlife, religious subjects and paintings inspired by classical music. Works in oil, watercolour, ink and pencil.

A graphic artist producing etchings.

STUDIES: Michaelis School of Fine Art, Slade School of Art; London; woodcarving under H V Meyerowitz in Cape Town; photo-lithography at the Cape Times; also studied under his father Marthinus (Tinus) de Jongh.

PROFILE: A war artist depicting scenes in France, England, Belgium and the Netherlands. Has traveled in South Africa and Europe. He built an art gallery at the Lanzerac Hotel in Stellenbosch to display the life in pictures of Tinus de Jongh.

EXHIBITIONS: He has participated in numerous group exhibitions in S.A.; 1946 Maskew Miller Gallery, Cape Town, first solo exhibition.

REPRESENTED: Ann Bryant Gallery; East London; National Museum, Bloemfontein; University of Cape Town; University of Stellenbosch.
