THE AFRIKANER LITTLE BOY

Pattie Price

Illustrated by Hume Henderson

Ten songs with music about small children

Methuen, 1935

"These little sketches were written about a small boy on a farm 'up-country' in South Africa. The chief characters, in addition to his Father and Mother are: 'Hans' - The farm-manager; 'Jim' - The Zulu 'head-boy' on the farm; 'Christmas' - Jim's little piccanin; 'Japie' - His little dog."

Hardcover with pictorial boards. Boards have markings and there is some foxing present, slightly hinged at the back but still bound.

A line from the lyrics: "Mummy's name was English, And Daddy's name is Dutch; And Grandma's French and German. But it doesn't matter much. 'Cos from all this mixture, Mummy says, Came me her little joy. So I'm a German-French-Dutch-English, Afrikaner little boy!"
