Alvin Jewett (A.J.) Johnson was one of the foremost American cartographic publishers active in the mid to late 19th century. Each of Johnson's maps were individually hand colored,  a time consuming and painstaking process. But a process that adds a unique beauty that is quite evident when viewing these maps. He continued to employ hand coloring on his maps well into the 1880's, when most other map makers had abandoned this technique for less expensive machine methods. 

These maps are true investments and their value will only grow with age. When matted and framed, their beauty is truly accentuated and display like fine works of art.

Condition: -  Very Good -  . Normal signs of age. Some slight tonal darkening from age. Very typical of maps from this era. Some age spots. Overall very nice!
