Hi Kevin, it has been designed to be mounted outside or on the roof of a house permanently. If you make sure it's flush with the roof when you drive and properly secured (and don't try to set any land speed records) I think it should be fine. However that's only my opinion and by no means do I guarantee it will work. The outer frame is aluminium. The glass is hail resistant. Flying stones from other vehicles could smash it though. Hi Jan. Ek verkoop slegs hierdie doelgerigte lig stelsels. Hulle sal niks meer doen as lig maak en selfone of ander USB toestelle laai nie. As jy 'n lig by my koop en ons is in kontak kan ek jou help met inligting en toerusting om jou hek motor te laai. Om jou vrae te antwoord, hiedie stelsel bevat 'n 6 volt sonpaneel en battery en ek is baie seker jou hek motor sal tenminste 12 volt wees. Die ligte se krag sal nie 'n battery kan laai nie en die selfoon laaier is 5 volt. Hierdie is baie goeie stelses maar slegs vir waarvoor hulle bedoel is. Hoop dit help. Johann
