THE AUTHOR WAS A CIVIL ENGINEER  AND DURING THE FIRST WORLD WAR HE WAS INVOLVED AS AN ENGINEER AT THE MINISTRY OF MUNITIONS.HE MOVED TO MAURITIUS IN THE 20'S AND BECAME HARBOUR ENGINEER.
