Hi Good afternoon
Would this coil work on my 1980 Yamaha XT 500 ?
The ignition system is very simple with a feed from the magneto , running to the single wire coil and the breaker points .
A proper " te dom om te breek " ignition system , with no cdi's ect to blow
I would like to convert it to GY scooter/quad CDI type setup later on , but would like to first get it running with only the coil and points setup
.

hi i have replaced the battery, the cdi on my 1590 cc scooter and still it is not starting, Still no spark can be detected from the coil. The two wires that plug on to the coil is a earth and a black even when the motor is cranked I don't see a spark. I know you said I must bring the scooter to

trouble shooting 101.
1st: start at the coil. follow the red and black wire to the plug, unplug the red and black wire along with the others, now extend the red and black wire so that it can touch a unpainted part of the frame or motor. crank the motor while the motor is turning scrape the extended red and black wire along the motor or frame Do you see sparks ( as would a short circuit)
2 nd: use a multi meter and measure the resistance between the blue and white wire and the frame or body what does this give you ?
give me the answers on these 2 questions and I will try to help from here
