The true Marigold which, with the simplicity of their requirements and the ease and freedom with which they produce their showy flowers, is amongst the most popular of hardy annuals. Sow and forget. Never be without a packet; if all else fails . . . (Incidentally, the flowers are still used on the Continent in the kitchen for flavouring dishes and were once used as a herbal remedy in broths "as a comforter of the heart and spirits").
This is one of the tallest Calendula varieties with its golden double flowers providing material for the floral artist and looking good in the garden too. 2½ ft.
CALENDULA ARE HARDY, EASILY GROWN AND FLOWER IN THE WINTER MONTHS. SOW IN LATE SUMMER AND AUTUMN FOR BEST RESULTS. THEY WILL SUCCEED IN A VARIETY OF SOILS. AN OPEN SUNNY POSITION IS PREFERRED AND THEY REQUIRE AMPLE WATER DURING DRY WEATHER. SOW DIRECT OR IN SEEDLING TRAYS (SEE OUR PLASTIC SEEDLING TRAYS). SOW SEED 12MM DEEP. WHEN THE YOUNG PLANTS ARE LARGE ENOUGH TO HANDLE TRANSPLANT IF NECESSARY. ERR ON THE LARGE SIDE. GENERALLY SPEAKING CALENDULA NEED VERY LITTLE ATTENTION APART FROM KEEPING DOWN WEED GROWTH.
