OLD CARPENTRY TOOLS!!! I WAS TOLD BY JAMES KERR’S GRANDSON THAT THESE TOOLS (OR A VAST MAJORITY OF THEM) WERE ACTUALLY USED DURING THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE TITANIC. JAMES KERR WAS A CARPENTER BASED IN BELFAST, IRELAND AND WORKED ON THE BALUSTRADE LEADING TO THE MAIN DINING-ROOM OF THE TITANIC. HE LATER EMMIGRATED TO SOUTH AFRICA AND THAT’S HOW THE TOOLS ENDED UP HERE. UNFORTUNATELY I DO NOT HAVE DOCUMENTATION CONFIRMING THE ABOVE, ONLY HIS WORD ALTHOUGH MOST OF THE TOOLS DO DATE TO THAT PERIOD…

PLEASE VIEW THE PICS VERY CAREFULLY FOR FULL DETAILS AND CONDITION AS THE PICTURES ARE THE DESCRIPTION OF THE ACTUAL ITEM BEING SOLD. ALSO VIEW ALL THE OLD CARPENTER TOOL LISTED BY CLICKING THE LINK BELOW. COLLECTION IS WELCOME IN BOKSBURG OR STANDARD POSTAGE WILL APPLY. WE WILL COMBINE POSTAGE BUT PLEASE ASK FIRST IF OVER 1kg.

Q:
Rob, we need to know if there are makers markings on the larger irons or not? Or are they just difficult to decipher? Thanks
UPDATED: 02 May 13:43
Makers markings as in Mathieson or James Howard, is what I actually meant? Thanks - Asked by wilhomhe (53 Rating score between 50 and 99)

A:
Hi, I am not sure of any makers markings. The blades have been well used and have a lot of general marks on them. I would say they have no marks but cannot be totally sure right now.

Q:
You couldn't wait till the weekend, could you!! Can't blame you! How wide are the two largest irons and who made them? The shorter one seems to be a Howarth? Thanks

Sorry, Rob, but no marking or just difficult to read? - Asked by wilhomhe (53 Rating score between 50 and 99)

A:
On the farm this weekend so no time!
The largest blades (irons) are 63mm wide. I cannot say who made them.
The shortest one is a Mathieson blade (iron).
The other short one is a Howarth.
