Brass "dove head" stirrup hilt sword with blackened scabbard as worn by German Colonial "Landespolizei" policemen. Matching "L.P.142" markings to guard & scabbard. Supplied by Carl Eickhorn of Solingen with markings to blade. Wirebound fishskin grip to hilt. Officer's "portepee" sword knot with silver black and red wire work. Probably a war trophy brought back from German South West Africa after the 1914-1915 campaign or WW1. Sword is in excellent condition, sword knot shows some wear to wiring. Very rare collector's piece!

Carl Eickhorn Waffenfabrik AG of Solingen was foiund in 1863 and was to become one of the main sword manufacturers for Nazi Germany. It survived WW2 and later produced swords in West Germany.
UPDATE (11 MAY 10:10AM): I HAVE BEEN INFORMED THAT THE PORTEPEE IS PROBABLY NOT GERMAN COLONIAL, BUT GERMAN WW2. I AM THUS WILLING TO GIVE A DISCOUNT OF R250 IF YOU WANT TO BUY THE WORD WITHOUT THE PORTEPEE.
