The Mint of Norway issued only a limited number of superior proof medallions in honour of Nelson Mandela's peace price.

Most are now in private hands so the value is bound to go up. This piece is an excellent investment given Mandela's stature and popularity amongst collectors. Silver has also done very well as a metal to invest in over the last few years. More so in metallic artworks with excellent craftsmanship such as this.

The production values are excellent for a proof coin. The coin is .999 silver. Minted with a polished die and with frosted upper finishes from a special blasted die. Very high proof  with nice clean sharp edges and ultracameo finish. I am sure it would get a very high proof rating from any coin grading service.

There is a small mark on the leaf of one of the palms reading 999 Ag.

Measures 39 mm in diameter.

PLEASE NOTE:

1. The medallion is 20 grammes of solid 999/1000 silver, the highest grade commercially available.
A much higher grade than the usual sterling 925 silver.

2. This medallion is NOT to be confused with the much more common uncirculated medallion of similar design which is only 925 silver not 999 silver and is NOT  a PROOF medallion, only of uncirculated grade, and had a mintage of 25 000. But even this cheaper option still retails for R1000 at the coin shop in Cavendish Square down the road.  This is the RARER PROOF medallion and is much more attractive and collectible, also made by the Oslo Norway Mint but in much lesser numbers.

The medallion comes in its own sealed hard clear plastic cover which is removable by hand, but this is not advisable as this is a proof grade medallion. This cover on this coin has NOT been opened. The plastic cover is great because it stops the brilliant silver finish from tarnishing.

By the way, did you know that brilliant pure silver as struck here has the physical property of being the best reflector of light of all metals? It gives that amazing diamond like reflector effect and a sheen which is not quite matched by any other metal.

Secure packaging and tracked postage is only R30.

We are Treasure House, an established brick and mortar shop in the greater Cape Town area.

Please note that the piece is stored off the premises  for added security.
