  Electronic Skin Tone Sensor

  Boots Smooth Skin PLUS is the first home use system with an electronic skin tone sensor. This sensor works out the most effective setting for your skin-tone, helping you get permanent hair reduction even faster.

  All you need to do is:

  1. Place the sensor on the body part you would like to treat (face, legs, arms, bikini, etc.)

  2. Press the button

  3. A green light will appear next to the recommended skin tone setting (If the red light appears, it means that your skin tone is too dark and you should not use the device)

  4. Set your Boots Smooth Skin PLUS unit to the indicated setting. NB: Always read the instructions before use

  How does Boots Smooth Skin PLUS work?

  The Boots Smooth Skin PLUS system works by directing an extremely short, intense pulse of filtered light into the skin. The light is absorbed by the coloured pigments in and surrounding the hair and disables the hair follicle, which prevents hair re-growth.

  5 Easy steps to becoming hair free:

  1. Use the Electronic Skin Tone Sensor to check that you can use the system and to check which setting to use on your Boots Smooth Skin PLUS system. Double check this against the skin tone chart provided on the back of pack or in the manual.

  2. Shave the area you wish to treat

  3. Apply a thick layer of Boots Activator Gel (we’ve included one pack to get you started)

  4. Treat the area quickly, pulse by pulse

  5. Repeat the treatment once each week. You’ll need to do between 6 – 12 sessions to be hair-free although in some areas you may need to do a few more treatments to achieve the desired result

Q: How does Boots Smooth Skin PLUS work?

A: The Boots Smooth Skin PLUS system uses a revolutionary technology formerly only used in salons and clinics called Intense Pulsed Light (IPL). When used correctly, this will provide long-lasting hair reduction. IPL acts when a short and intense pulse of filtered light is directed into the skin. The amount of light supplied by the Boots Smooth Skin PLUS system is carefully controlled in order for the hair follicle to heat up enough to discourage it from growing again, without affecting the skin.

Q: Is it permanent?

A: Boots Smooth Skin PLUS is considered permanent hair reduction. This means that the successfully treated follicle should not produce any new hair. However, dormant follicles can produce new hair due to hormonal changes, so no IPL or laser system can claim total permanent hair removal.

Q: Why can't Boots Smooth Skin PLUS be used on darker skin tones?

A: Darker skin types have a considerable amount of pigment (melanin) and will absorb more light. This means that use of the Smooth Skin PLUS on darker skin tones may result in severe adverse reactions such as bruising, burning or blistering.

Q: Why can't Boots Smooth Skin PLUS be used after tanning?

A: Exposure to UV light increases melanin in the surface of the skin and therefore will enhance the natural colour. This sensitises the skin and allows higher absorption of the energy from Boots Smooth Skin PLUS into the skin, which could result in adverse reactions such as bruising, burning or blistering.
