Captain Miller, the author of this book, was killed in France on July 16th 1916. He served through the Boer War until it's close in 1902. After being in the South African Railway Offices for some time he joined the staff of THE FRIEND newspaper in Bloemfontein. He also acted for many years as Hon. Secretary for the Rugby Union of the Orange Free-state. He served in the campaign in South-West Africa, and then joined the 1st S.A. Infantry, with whom he fought in Egypt, and afterwards in France.
