First World War (and just after) Emergency Note (NOTGELD) Collection of Germany & Austria : Lot 3

R85.00

During and after the First World War, money, especially small change, was in short supply. Metal was being used in the war efforts and people's natural tendency to hold onto something of value, (ie) coins and banknotes, furthered the shortage.

Eventually to get over this problem, the state bank (Reichbank) appears to have agreed to allow towns, villages and municipalities to issue their own money.

These issues were emergency issues. The word not means emergency or necessity and geld means money.

These are highly collectable and interesting old banknotes, with their different colourful motives and designs.

I have recently acquired a large collection of German and Austrian Notgeld notes and broke the collection up in seven (7) lots of over 20 notes each. Most of these beautiful notes are in crisp uncirculated condition.

This is lot 3.

Please see following pictures, the last shows all the notes you are bidding on as one lot here ..
