A STRANGE FIND. A BOOK (IN VERY POOR CONDITION, NO SPINE) WITH PAGES CUT-OUT TO FIT A SMALL TRANSISTOR RADIO, INSIDE A LEATHER POUCH, PROBABLY TO SMUGGLE INTO A PRISON. I'VE PUT A BATTERY INTO THE RADIO, IT SWITCHES ON BUT THERE'S NO SOUND. THE BACK COVER OF THE RADIO IS LOOSE, YET THE RADIO IS STILL IN GOOD CONDITION. NO INSCRIPTIONS EXCEPT AT THE LAST PAGE, WHERE THERE IS 3 INITIALS J.D.K 1974. I GOOGLED THOSE INSCRIPTIONS + DATE + PRISONER, AND BECAUSE IT'S AN AFRIKAANS BOOK, SOUTH AFRICA, AND THE ONLY ONE I COULD FIND IS IAN DAVID KITSON.
Dave Kitson trained as a mechanical engineer and spent eight years in Britain. Two of these years were spent as a research fellow at Ruskin College, Oxford where he also became a member of the Draughtsman’s and Allied Technician’s Association. He returned to South Africa in 1959. In October 1964 Kitson was charged with sabotage. Furthering the aims of communism and joining the High Command of MK in the Rand Criminal Court. He was convicted in December 1964 to 29 years’ imprisonment at the Pretoria Local Prison. Upon his release in 1984, Kitson was able to rejoin his wife and two children. PLEASE NOTE: I CANNOT CLAIM NOR STATE THAT THIS BOOK BELONGED TO HIM, I'M MERELY STATING THAT THIS WAS WHAT I FOUND. POSTAGE R35.00
