Kiggelaria africana This hardy evergreen has low spreading branches. It grows between 4 and 13m high. The bark is gray and becomes rough with age. 15 seeds "Wild peach" The tiny, bell-shaped flowers which bloom from spring to summer, are yellow-green, with male and female flowers on separate trees. The hard, round, knobbly, greenish yellow capsule which forms in late summer to mid-winter splits to expose shiny black seeds, enclosed in an oily, sticky, bright orange-red coat. This tree is a real wild life tree, the fruit is eaten by the birds, the leaves play host to butterflies which insect eating birds come and feast on. The wild peach likes full sun. It can flower with in 2 years under ideal conditions. |
