Glumicalyx consists of six species found in the Drakensberg and mountains of Lesotho, southern Africa. They are perennial shrublets or herbs with tubular flowers held usually in nodding heads. The flower colour ranges from light cream to orange and red, with the petals being darker-coloured than the tube.

Glumicalyx nutans is a very showy perennial that grows up to 40cm in height and has hairy leaves. During summer it bears tubular flowers that are orange to deep brick red inside and buff on the outside. It is a great plant for a rockery or a container.
