African Blackwood (Dalbergia Menaloxylyn) is a beautiful and rare timber
from the Northern Transvaal and Mozambique. It has been a protected species
for a while now and yet is still harvested unfortunately and sold roadside for survival
of locals. Of the Rosewood family, it is utterly exquisite when viewed in direct
sunlight after being polished. Under 20x magnification its cellular structure is
very similar to the true ebony, however whereas ebony is rather dull, this timber
has a depth akin to a tiger's eye. This box has been turned and grooved so if you
wished to polish it, I would recommend a patient brushing with a hard shoe-brush
with no polish.
