The hub does not need to be 4 ports, but more than one port is of course more convenient to use. In our context, connecting through a desktop computer (with broadband connection) is cheaper (or free) and more practical. We would also like to be able to connect to the desktop directly or insert a memory stick to be able to load music and videos previously downloaded.

Not too sure what you need by a 4 port hub, please advise as to what you need to make use of that we can advise accordingly.
This device is wifi enable, you cannot connect a modem directly to it but can obtain internet through a 3g modem router such as the link below.
