You are bidding on a very rare 9ct gold Prospecting Brooch.
This brooch dates back to the 1800's and probably from the Pilgrims Rest area
when South Africa experienced the mad gold rush with
people flocking in from all over the world hoping to strike it rich by prospecting for gold.
When a prospector found his first gold nugget they they usually made it into a brooch to wear and
show off their success as can be seen in this example with three nuggets, the main one where the pick
and spade handles cross and then another two smaller nuggets, one at each end of the spade and pick.
This played a huge role in the outbreak of the Boer War.
Very nice example of South African History.
The brooch is solid 9ct gold and the nuggets are 24ct gold.
Thank you and God bless you.
