Bell of Africa - with appendix on Rifles and Shooting

Spearman and Holland, 1960

Hardcover with dustjacket - jacket shows wear and tear. There are some tape marks present but generally internally clean and tight. Small previous owner name present.

Throughout Africa wherever hunters, explorers and old timers gather togther the name of Karamojo Bell is spoken with respect. For Walter D. M. Bell was the greatest of all the old professional elephant hunters. In the course of his many safaris he penetrated alone into wild regions where he was the first and only white man. And he made a huge success, financial and otherwise, of his huntings. Bell of Africa, the autobiography of W. D. M. Bell is not merely the story of elephants. Rather it is the story of a young Scots lad born near Edinburgh in 1880 who, before his teens, decided that he wanted to be an elephant hunter. Before realising his ambition he worked his way almost entire round the world in cargo vessels, eventually reaching Africa when he was seventeen.

A scarce first edition that sells for over $120 on international sites.

Where applicable, all dust jackets are protected by a clear removable film
