Melasphaerula ramosa 35cm, branched inflorescence, many small greenish-cream flowers spring, excellent shade plant for dry areas. Sow autumn. Zone 8. 10 seeds Tiny, bell-shaped corms produce very slender, sword-like leaves that immediately proclaim this as a member of the Iris family, though the leaves have red stripes on them which is unusual. Masses of small, creamy- to sulphur-yellow flowers, each with a purple star in the centre, are made in racemes supported by thin wiry stems in the spring. Tiny corms, small flowers but a big visual impact by sheer volume of numbers - if happy. |
