From the photo it seems the phone cannot be charged with the clip pouch closed, is that correct? Does the pouch have usb access at the bottom?

hi there,, yes case would need to be open to charge as no hole at the bottom, the plastic inset is indented so the access to the USB should be fine.
U could however punch a hole should you wish ( i wouldnt recommend), otherwise the book type case maybe an option if you prefer it close to charge, but I find the flip type easier to use as a phone, and the book type as a PDA.
:) sorry to hear about the dog taking over,, i have 3,, leather, rubber etc, shouldnt be anywhere near, as it will become their plaything
