Automatic switching between AC and DC (AC when available, DC when AC not available). This means you could configure a very simple mains back-up system by connecting the AC mains, and to the DC you connect a 12V battery which is also connected to a trickle charger - if the mains fail the unit switches over to DC until the mains is restored.
