Spinel is a very popular gem amongst collectors and jewelry creators alike because of it's hardness (8) it's range of stunning colours and its high luster. Spinel is found together with ruby deposits and many rubies (including famous ones such as the Black Princes "ruby" in the British Crown Jewels) have been found to be Spinel.
