Francois Badenhorst (1934 2013)
A painter of landscapes, seascapes, still life and portraits with a proclivity for bush-veld scenes. Growing up amongst the Boabab trees of the north, allowed for an intimate study of these magnificent giants and the development of the reputation as South Africa's greatest Boabab painter. Schooled at Pietersburg with further studies at the Giotto Academy of Arts, Johannesburg, under Sydney Goldblatt.
He was employed in the advertising and display departments of the OK Bazaars and Carlton Groups before embarking on a life long career as a fine artist. Founder of the Pietersburg show for the benefit of Lions International and initiator of the Pietersburg Municipal art collection. He had numerous solo and group exhibitions including one at the National Gallery of Botswana.
