Sony Playstation 3 Slim Review
Playstation 3 Slim is the latest video game console from Sony Corporation. It's an improvement over Sony Playstation 3, a slimmer version like the name suggests. Sony's older PS3 models will be discontinued.
The Main Features of the Sony PS3 Slim
Has a lot changed with the new Sony Playstation? Well, it's slimmer and 36% lighter.
Its main features:
- A Bluetooth Dual Shock controller.
- The BRAVIA Sync Feature (users can use a HDMI cable to connect to a BRAVIA TV and use the TV remote control to play Playstation 3 games).
- Built-in Profile 2.0 Blu-ray player with BD-Live capabilities.
- A vertical stand.
- 2 USB ports to plug and play external storage devices.
- Most of the features of the PS3.
Let's see if the subtle changes are good or bad.
Plusses For the Sony Playstation 3 Slim
- Competitively priced.
- Built-in Wi-Fi connectivity (something that Xbox treats as an additional, paid accessory).
- A 'System Standby' feature that turns the PS3 system off when a connected BRAVIA TV is turned off.
- Energy efficient.
Minuses For the Sony Playstation 3 Slim
- Just a new avatar, better, but no new or revolutionary features.
- It is not backwards compatible, the biggest letdown.
- Lack of a useful feature, an IR receiver.
- The matte finish is described by many as cheap and ugly.
Neutrals
- There is one change that won't really make a difference to the majority of PS3 users; the new PS3 system does not have the "Install Other OS" feature any more.
To conclude, the PS3 Slim is lean, mean and affordable, and Sony is clearly aiming at moving ahead of the game console pack. If only it had spent more on making it backwards compatible, the product would have been an all-out success.
