(18 June 2010) South African online marketplace bobshop.co.za is now a proud member of the Proudly South African Campaign. “Nurturing and promoting entrepreneurship is of vital importance to Bob Shop”, says Bob Shop Managing Director Andy Higgins. “For us, joining the Proudly South African Campaign is a logical step, because this organisation aims to encourage the demand for quality products made in South Africa, thus boosting local businesses’ products and contributing to the socio-economic welfare of the SA economy.”

The Proudly South African Campaign was launched in October 2001 to encourage South Africans and visitors to contribute to the national economy by buying and supporting local products and services. At the same time, the Campaign aspires to improve and raise the benchmark of the “made in South Africa” brand.  That is why products and services registered with the Proudly SA Campaign must meet high standards of quality, local content, fair labour practises and should be environmentally responsible.

bobshop has assigned a special section of the site for its sellers who have been awarded the right to display the Proudly SA mark of quality. “We already know that, given the choice, many Bob Shop buyers would rather buy from local sellers. Practical considerations - like the ease of transacting in Rands and cheaper shipping charges - are only part of their motivation. They also want to actively support the home-grown entrepreneurs. The Proudly South African section of bobshop.co.za offers them the opportunity to do just that, while at the same time giving them an additional peace of mind regarding the quality of the products and the credibility of the sellers”, says Higgins.
