How to Achieve Active Senior Living

Ageing is inevitable. But your attitude toward growing old is entirely your decision. Are you going to let a mere number get in your way of having fun and being productive? Or are you going to seize the moment and make sure your golden years are even more fulfilling than your youth?

Practice active senior living: Active senior living involves a healthy mind and a healthy body. Ask your doctor to recommend a regular exercise and diet regimen to give your body the nutrition and activity it needs. Also consider practising yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi, and playing golf or tennis. Remember to get your physician's approval.

Indulge in hobbies: There's no better time to expand your skill sets than after retirement. If you've always been fascinated by gardening, learning to play a musical instrument, collecting items (train models, stamps, movies, books, wine), sculpting, fishing, candle making, origami, wood carving or a new language, this is the perfect time to dabble in these great hobbies.

Give back to the community: There are plenty of organisations in your neighbourhood, town or city that need experienced people to help out. A University of Michigan study found that older people who care for others through volunteer work live more than 50% longer than those who don¿t! So go out there and help raise funds, do charity work, help at an animal shelter, or donate your time to the local library or hospital. See if you can tutor at the local school.

Travel the world: Remember the time when you vowed to travel the world but didn't have the time? What's stopping you now? With good planning and little bit of research, travelling can be inexpensive and hassle-free. Go see the Statue of Liberty, Niagara Falls, and the Grand Canyon in the USA. In South America, explore Machu Picchu, Angel Falls, and Easter Island. Take the train through Europe and visit the Grand Canal, Mount Olympus, St. Peter's Basilica, the Colosseum, Eiffel Tower, and The Louvre. The Taj Mahal, Golden Temple, Jaisalmer Fort, Great Wall of China, Forbidden City, Imperial Palace, and Yakushima Island await you in Asia. Visit the Pyramids of Giza and Serengeti National Park in Africa and the Great Barrier Reef, Sydney Opera House, and Gold Coast in Australia. Travel the world, expand your mind and remember life is beautiful!

Socialise and have fun: You don't have to become a homebody just because you are retired. Socialise and have fun with other senior citizens. Many clubs are dedicated exclusively to senior citizens, where you can meet new people, build contacts, and have fun with ballroom dancing, ten-pin bowling, picnics and much more.
