Your Magical Night

Getting ready for your matric prom is a stressful prospect, but preparing well in advance will make sure that when the big night arrives, you're going to turn heads and look magnificent.

Here are some tips for your magical night.

Prom dress: The most popular prom dresses are made of organza, taffeta or chiffon and the eternal style is the classic A-line silhouette with a sweetheart neckline. Mermaid prom dresses and empire column gowns are also popular. Strappy, strapless or one-shoulder looks are equally charming. Try colours like champagne, pearl pink, or lavender for a subtle look or gold, silver, burgundy, emerald, fuchsia, or red for drama.

Prom shoes: Pick a heel height you're comfortable with. Three inch heels are the classic choice for prom in styles like peep-toes, classic pumps and strappy sandals. Metallic tone sandals with rhinestone detailing, satin platform heels and glittery sling-back peep-toes are our top choices. Make sure your shoes have comfort padded insoles for all-night dancing!

Prom hairstyles: Braids are everywhere this season and are perfect for prom. Go for elaborate hairstyles like the lace braid, fishtail braid, Herringbone braid, or the waterfall braid. Complement with hair accessories like glittery butterfly clips, beaded headbands, flower clips, or sequinned feathers. If braids aren¿t your thing, go for a Roman or Grecian ponytail, French twists, delicate chignons or poufs or ballerina buns.

Prom makeup: Wash your face with a mild face wash and then dab primer to even out your complexion. Next, apply some illuminating oil-free foundation and follow up with concealer for blemishes. Go all out on the eyes with dramatic eyeliner, volumising mascara, glitter eye pencil and smoky eyeshadow. Keep the rest of your face low-key with rosy blusher and peachy lipstick. Aim for an understated, non-cakey look and let your youthful glow shine through.

Prom nails: Since your outfit, hair and makeup are going to be dramatic; it may be a good idea to keep your nails simple with the classic French manicure which goes with everything. Alternatively, try nail crystals, colourful gel nails, nail foils, or stick-on nail art that complements your outfit.

Prom accessories:
Carry a colour coordinated lace or satin clutch. Keep your jewellery simple, classic diamond ear studs and a crystal bracelet are enough. Skip the necklace if your gown¿s neckline is elaborate. Spritz on a floral perfume and a hint of body glitter, and you're all set!

When getting ready for your matric prom, make sure to highlight only some parts of your look. For example, you could sport attention grabbing shoes and dramatic hair, while keeping your outfit and makeup relatively subtle. The key to looking ravishing on prom night is to balance the dramatic with the simple.
