Apple Rose Gold WatchA Technological Masterpiece

The new Apple smart watch was lovingly dubbed the Apple iWatch prior to its official unveiling on the 9th of September 2014. Three years into the making, this device is set to be another one of Apples defining breakthrough moments in the face of rising competition.

The Apple watch is their first entry into the sphere of wearable technology. Despite its ambitious nature, the watch is by no stretch of the imagination a first. Giants such as Sony, LG, Samsung, Motorola have preceded Apple releases by a few years in some cases. Perhaps Apple went to great length to ensure their users the kind of experience that only Apple has been able to provide thus far.

Comparable Technology

While we have yet to physically compare the Apple watch with competitors, we have seen some incredible media on the device which will serve to satisfy our curiosity.

Here Are a Few of the Apple Watch Features

  • Built-in speaker and microphone
  • Siri supported
  • Gyroscope
  • Accelerometer
  • GPS
  • Wifi
  • Time which is accurate to roughly 50 milliseconds
  • Anti-theft device passcode

These features are probably exactly what you expected, but moving on from these features there are some incredible technological advances which this device showcases.

Personalised Technology

Apple has incorporated new haptic technology into the watch. This feature ensures a far more subtle user experience than one may experience with the previous haptic vibration technology in a cell phone. When you receive a message, no one else knows about it.

Along the lines of this new user experience, Apple has allowed for the user to communicate in a more understated manner than before. You are now able to give someone a subtle tap, just so they know you are thinking about them. Additionally you can send a small sketch or even your heartbeat!

Another breakthrough technology that Apple has pioneered is their display. The tiny electrodes around the display sense the difference between tapping and pressing. This results in more contextually specific control of the interface.

Wearable Technology

The Apple watch is not only magnificently designed, but it is also available in many different configurations:
2 sizes
3 different casings
6 different casing finishes
6 different straps

The Verdict
The personalisation is simply unparalleled. The Apple watch is not only a technological masterpiece; it is also an unobtrusive jewel in a world which has become exceptionally conscious of whether or not someone is listening to us or looking at their phone.

The Apple watch is set to be available to the public roughly around the 2nd week of March 2015, we know South Africa inevitably experiences delays in this regard, so it will probably be available around April or May 2015.
