| DESCRIPTION | A large framed original oil painting of FISHERMAN'S COTTAGES ON MELKBOSSTRAND painted by listed South African artist Gerrie Snyman. It is done on artist's board (treated canvass on board). The artist signed this work at bottom right and dated it 1968. The framed painting measures 65 x 90 cm and the artwork alone measures 45 x 70 cm. The horizontal format is very effective in capturing the Melkbosstrand seascape with a full frontal view of Table Mountain in the background. The painting is still framed in the typical original 1960's frame of two thin wooden frames, painted white and seperated by masonite which is painted dark brown. | CONDITION | This painting is in good condition. The paint is still bright and without loss. There are a few small nicks on the wood of the frame and slight peeling of the brown paint on the masonite section of the frame. It can be hung as it is. |
| A beautiful and perfectly executed artwork by an artist who is mentioned as a landscape artist in Esme Berman's 'Art and Artists of South Africa'. The original period frame also lends a nice touch to this very well known South African landmark, painted half a century ago - before it became an extensively built - up area. |
