This wonderful and very rare antique (1930 to 1950) German 3-bar wooden Autoharp/ Chord Zither is an amazing find and the first one like it that I have come across. The German made string instrument is part of the German Zither instrument family and was patented by Charles Zimmerman in 1882. The dampening mechanisms (3-bar) engaged with the strings laterally as opposed to from above. The autoharp measures 47cm long x 25.5cm wide x 7.5cm high and is a beautiful looking musical instrument. The auto harp would be an amazing ornamental piece and once it has been restrung would be a lovely show piece. The casing of the autoharp has wear and tear and I do not think it is a playable instrument. Please view the pics very carefully to confirm the condition.
